Our ESG Framework

Famous Brands is Africa’s leading food services franchisor, known for its iconic brands and reputation as a responsible franchisor. Our continued success lies in our ability to craft, grow and protect remarkable brands that meet the needs of an evolving consumer.

ESG Framework

Our ESG purpose

We seek to build a sustainable and inclusive future by living our core values, empowering our people and nurturing our franchise partners. We are dedicated to fostering a thriving ecosystem where every stakeholder can succeed while actively reducing our environmental footprint and championing responsible business practices that honour our commitment to integrity, collaboration, and long-term stewardship.

The strategic outcomes we seek

Preserving the planet by reducing our environmental impact

Promoting social equity through our transformation, diversity and development initiatives

Ensuring sustainable operations through health and safety and food safety practices

Upholding good governance through enhanced governance practices.

Environmental sustainability

Achieving measurable reductions in carbon emissions, energy, water consumption, and waste generation, leading to a more sustainable business model.

Social responsibility

Impacting transformation through community engagement and workforce diversity, equity and inclusivity. This also includes investing in health and safety and responsible practices to drive long-term sustainability.

Corporate governance

Strengthen governance structures, Board independence, transparency, ethics and accountability.

While supporting our selected SDGs

Remuneration supporting ESG

The successful implementation of our ESG Framework relies on all employees delivering on its objectives and targets. The Group has non-financial performance KPIs for executive and senior management remuneration incentives, including transformation, health and safety and the overall delivery of the five-year sustainability plan, which was launched in 2022.

ESG governance

The Social and Ethics Committee is responsible for reviewing performance against our ESG Framework. They are supported by our Social and Ethics Working Group. The Audit and Risk Committee oversees our ESG-related risks.

" The SDGs support Famous Brands in aligning our practices with global goals addressing social, economic and environmental issues. By integrating the SDGs into our ESG Framework, we position ourselves for long-term sustainability. "

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provided a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. At its heart are the 17 SDGs, which call on countries to end poverty and inequality, improve the overall wellbeing of humanity while addressing climate change and preserving our natural environment.

The private sector plays a crucial role in addressing major global challenges. We contribute to the SDGs through responsible business practices, reducing our environmental footprint, providing economic development opportunities, and supporting our employees and communities.

Reviewing our SDGs

In 2020, we committed to contributing to the five SDGs and defined their accompanying targets and sustainability KPIs. In 2023, we began reporting against these targets.

In August 2023, we commissioned a consultancy to review our selected five SDGs and reaffirm whether these were aligned with our business. The review proposed that Famous Brands adopt three additional SDGs and remove two SDGs. In addition, SDGs are now categorised as primary or secondary goals. In May 2024, the Social and Ethics Committee approved the revised SDG selection, SDG targets and sustainability KPIs.

Primary goals

What we must achieve to support our vision

These refer to those SDGs that are strongly aligned with the Group's core business and vision.

Secondary goals

How we operate as a good corporate citizen

These relate to important activities to meet our societal obligations but are not related to core business activities.
