We have a strategic portfolio of 16 iconic restaurant brands that appeal to consumers across income and demographic bands, meal preferences, and value propositions.
Famous Brands operates franchised, master-licenced, and Company-owned restaurants. We use full business format franchising, in which our franchise partners use the franchisor’s entire business concept, including the name, trademarks, copyright, expertise, and other intellectual property.
We manage and protect our brands and provide our franchise partners with ongoing support to ensure that they deliver consistent brand experiences. We earn sales-based royalty income (franchise fee revenue) based on a percentage of these restaurant turnovers. We have a stable portfolio of talented, resilient franchise partners with a proven ability to succeed in difficult trading conditions.
The portfolio is segmented into Leading Brands (mainstream) and Signature Brands (niche). Leading Brands are further categorised as Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) and Casual Dining Restaurants (CDR). Our QSR brands prioritise take away and delivery offerings with smaller sit-down areas, while CDR brand offers a full-service, sit-down experience. Our Signature Brands offer a wide range of bespoke CDR offerings.
Leading Brands
Steers is a well-loved brand with a notable presence in the highly competitive QSR market. Steers is known for its 100% pure beef flame-grilled burgers, hand-cut potato chips, fresh ingredients and unbeatable flavours. Steers also offers breakfast options and a growing range of flame-grilled chicken meals.
Debonairs Pizza is a market-leading brand that owes its popularity to an ongoing focus on pizza innovation, generosity, quality ingredients and home delivery. Iconic crowd-pleasers include the Triple-Decker, Crammed-Crust and Double-Stack pizzas. Debonairs Pizza was the first African pizza brand to launch online and mobile ordering.
Fishaways is South Africa’s most popular seafood QSR restaurant brand. It offers affordable and nutritious seafood meals and sushi catering to discerning and health-conscious consumers. Meals are simple with generous portions.
Since day one, Mugg & Bean has been known for a spirit of generosity with ample café-style meals, giant muffins and decadent cakes, bottomless coffees and ongoing coffee innovation. The brand has a loyalty app that allows consumers to earn rewards with every visit.
