Coup for Famous Brands Directorate - Appointment of Norman Adami to the Board

Johannesburg; Tuesday, 28 October 2014: Famous Brands has announced the appointment of Mr Norman Adami as an independent Non-executive director to the Board. This appointment will be effective from 24 February 2015. Mr Adami, (Bachelor of Business Science (Hons), MBA), is currently Executive Chairman of SAB Beverages, responsible for the company’s Beer Division, the Coca-Cola Bottler ABI, and the soft drinks business Appletiser. He is also Partnership Director for SABMiller’s global relationship with The Coca-Cola Company. He is set to retire from his position on 31 October 2014. During his extensive career with SABMiller, which commenced at SAB Pty Ltd in 1979, he established himself as one of the company’s most effective business leaders, particularly in turn-around or highly competitive situations. Famous Brands Group Chief Executive, Kevin Hedderwick says, “I am delighted and excited about the wealth of experience that Norman will bring to our Board, as well as the opportunity to renew my acquaintance with him, which dates back to my own career at SABMiller. Norman is one of the most effective and astute leaders that I have ever had the privilege of working with, and his acceptance of a seat on our Board is a huge compliment to Famous Brands. His presence alongside our other Board members, under the judicious Chairmanship of Santie Botha, will serve to strengthen the Famous Brands business.” ABRIDGED BIOGRAPHY FOR MR NORMAN ADAMI During his career with the group, Mr Adami held a range of senior positions: he was appointed Managing Director of SAB in 1994 and Chairman in 2000. Under his leadership for nearly a decade, SAB consistently generated sustained, profitable growth. In 2003, Mr Adami was installed as President and CEO of the newly acquired Miller Brewing Company, and became known as a bold change agent who led the turn-around of a company that had been in decline for more than decade. In 2006, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of SABMiller Americas. In this position he was responsible for Miller Brewing Company and SABMiller’s South and Central American business units with revenues in excess of $11 billion. SABMiller had acquired the Bavaria group in 2005, and Norman’s priority was to ensure optimal integration of that business with SABMiller’s other Latin American operations and the Group. During his tenure, those businesses achieved beer volume growth of 12%, revenue growth of 15% and EBITA growth of 18%. Mr Adami retired from SABMiller on November 30 2007, for personal reasons, but returned in October 2008, once again taking on the role of Managing Director and Chairman of SAB Ltd. He is largely credited for leading the rejuvenation of SAB within the new highly competitive environment created when long-time partner Heineken departed to align with Diageo. He is also a partner in Stud Game Breeders, one of the pre-eminent groups leading the emergence of South Africa’s burgeoning game breeding industry, which has made great strides in revitalising threatened animal species and in creating sustainable employment in many rural areas.     For further information:
